Glazing Information

Glazing Information

All our windows are designed to have the looks of windows used in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian period. The use of 20mm glazing bars whilst using double glazed units is an important feature of their character.

Glazing

  • Sashes use our unique slim profile double glazed sealed units to fit the original pattern of period glazing bars.
  • All windows are supplied fully glazed. We provide a choice of 16mm sealed units for listed building, 20mm for other buildings, or single glazing if required.
  • Float glass is used as standard - we also supply low E, toughened or obscure glazing.
  • Sealed units use an insulated 'Warm Edge' structural foam seal, reducing condensation.
  • All sealed glazing units are made to suit the pane size, the method preferred by conservation officers.

Glazing Bars

Our glazing bars have been engineered using new methods to allow them to be as slim as those traditionally fitted, and are at the heart of our windows.

The glazing bar design gives increased strength to the structure and reduces the risk of breakage, as well as helping to retain the classic lines of all our windows. The client also has a choice of glazing bar designs which will be matched by the sealed glazing unit spacers and final finish.

Insulation

The insulating effect of double glazing is affected by a number of factors, including the cavity width or by using 'K' coating glass that reflects heat back into the room and is very similar in appearance to clear float glass.

U Values are the measurement of heat transfer through glass. Most of our glazing units with insulated spacers are rated at a U value of 1.6 W/m, reducing condensation and increasing sound insulation.

Regulations

  • From 1st April 2006, all replacement windows became subject to Document L of the Building egulations, requiring increased levels of insulation. Listed buildings are however, exempt from this regulation.
  • Many types of double glazing are unlikely to conform to this regulation; timber replacement windows are usually installed low E glass such as Pilkington 'K' glass to meet required insulation levels.
  • At Old Manor Cottages we are able to support applications for approval from Building Control and Conservation Officers at your Local Authority.
